General Teaching refers to kindergarten and elementary schools teachers who teach several subjects to one classroom of children.  General teaching covers all subjects necessary to an elementary student’s education: English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Arts and Physical Education.  Planning lessons, instruction on subjects, evaluating student performance, grading assignments and tests, report card preparation and consultations with parents are primary duties in general teaching.  General teaching requires sensitivity to individual student needs, be they cultural or environmental, and innovative thinking in accommodating special learning needs resulting therefrom.  Organization, motivational skills, superior communication abilities, inspirational attributes, patience and creativity are all part of general teaching.
