An Automotive Technician performs routine maintenance, diagnostic services and repairs on vehicles that are gasoline, electricity or propane powered.  Duties carried out daily run from simple oil changes to utilizing computer technology to isolate a mechanical problem.  An automotive technician is proficient with traditional power and hand tools, as well as electronic and computer components.  Welders, lathes, grinding machines and hoists are commonly used.  Automotive technicians who work in small to mid-sized shops typically work on all aspects of automotive repair and maintenance, while technicians in large shops may specialize as, for example, a front end mechanic.  Analytical thinking, mathematical and computer skills are essential.
